Teacher Education

BAM’s Summer Teacher Institutes focus on integrating art into classroom curricula, building teacher knowledge and skills in the studio, and experimenting with hands-on, learner-centered facilitation. Come investigate artwork in the Museum, create art, and collaborate with teachers across subject and grade levels. Design projects and materials for use in your own teaching environment inspired by BAM’s current exhibitions. Participants can anticipate daily art-making projects and gallery activities at BAM, paired with articles, videos, and individual projects to be read, watched, and completed at home.

Register for two optional Boise State University or Northwest Nazarene University professional development credits the first day of class.

How Artmaking Develops Learners

Monday – Friday
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (hybrid course: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at BAM, 2-4 p.m. remote)

Cost: $110 (BSU and NNU credit available)

Come together with Idaho educators this summer to increase your abilities to cultivate creativity and learning through play! Learn how play impacts memorable learning and how the process of artmaking fosters strong critical thinking and problem solving skills within students. Leave feeling inspired to infuse visual art opportunities into your curriculum across disciplines.

Teachers will explore BAM’s current exhibitions, including Here We Have Idaho: Material Matters | S.A. Jones and Astri Snodgrass; Julie Green: The Last Supper; Visual Language: The Art of Abstraction; Steeped: Tea as Muse; Myths, Fables, and Fortunes: Our Place within the Landscape; Spectrum: Color in Pigment and Light.

Registration is final. No refunds will be granted for Teacher Institute registration fees.
